Understanding O-Rings

Essential Sealing Components for Hydraulic Systems

O-Rings are critical sealing elements used in hydraulic fittings and adapters to prevent fluid leakage under pressure. Their simple design and reliable performance make them one of the most widely used sealing components across industries.

We provide detailed O-Ring information to help you select the right compounds and types to optimize seal longevity and system reliability.

O-Ring Information

O-Ring compounds are typically unique for specific fitting applications accounting for temperature, fluid compatibility, and other factors. If not specified, standard fittings supplied by Air-Way would be assembled with O-Rings that are in line with SAE J515 type CH, which is a sulfur cured nitrile compound (see below). We also stock peroxide cured nitrile O-Rings which provide improved compression set, and slightly wider temperature ratings. SAE J515 types CA and HK can be available as quoted. We also supply several special compounds as specified by our customers. The table below lists the most common compounds as specified in SAE J515.

Why Quality O-Rings Matter

Poor quality or improperly specified O-Rings can lead to leaks, equipment failure, and costly downtime. Air-Way ensures all our O-Rings meet rigorous SAE J515 standards and ISO quality certifications, delivering consistent, dependable sealing performance.

Selecting the Right O-Ring for Your Application

Choosing the appropriate O-Ring requires considering fluid compatibility, pressure, temperature, and mechanical stress. Our experienced team can help you identify the best compound and design for your hydraulic system needs.
